During "conditioning" over the past month, both Blaine Hale (LP New Head Coach & also just happens to be Tanner's Club Coach) and Matt Paskett (Ass't Coach & just happens to be Tanner's Uncle) have been telling ALL the boys that "there is NO GiMMiE'S" for this years Soccer team. Meaning, everyone needs to work hard, play hard, show up, etc. to conditioning & tryouts and NOT ASSUME they are on the team because they were on the LP team last year, they were on Blaine's "Dynamo" team, or is you are "Matt's nephew". ;0) They made it quite clear! Which is really good, because there were boys last year that made the team because their parents talked to the coach or they were "friends" with the coach, or related, etc. This year we all feel so much better about those boys who will make it, will make it because they are GOOD, & not because of ANY other reason. I TRUST the coaches- The boys have needed this for so long & grateful that there was a change made before this HS season began.

On Monday, February 27th Lone Peak HS held their Boys Soccer Try-outs. At 2:30 pm they began with passing out the boys tryout numbers, then had the boys run a timed 3 miles. Then they ran sprints and the girls from the Girls Soccer team timed them doing that. (A funny side note, Tanner mentioned that during the last 3 laps of the 3 miles that he was running, his stomach started to turn and he needed to go #2 & use the restroom, UGH!!! He was able to hold it off and wait, but Poor Guy...) It reminds me of what I've heard about "true" marathon/half marathon runners, and that is that when they are running they just "GO", instead of using the bathrooms. And ever since then, me running a half marathon is OUT OF THE QUESTION- or I would make my OWN rules! He felt like he still did well, but knew it hampered him some on his time. They didn't have any cuts that evening, and had everyone come back on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, they were suppose to begin at 3 pm, but with the 3" of snow that we received overnight they had the boys shovel the snow off the field and then had them come at around 4 pm instead. They scrimmaged against one another. Tanner did say that he had a SCARY moment when he had the ball and another boy (he doesn't know) came up from behind and SLID into his feet. It REALLY scared him, he thought his ankle/foot was for sure going to get hurt, LUCKILY he didn't get hurt!!! He felt like he did really good at tryouts. The first round of cuts were posted at 9 pm on the LP Soccer website.
