Tanner's 18th birthday & the beginning of the end of Summer...August

Because we were gone to Bear Lake during Tanner's Birthday, I wanted to do a little something EXTRA because it was his 18th Birthday.
We gave him some money, and a few food gift cards from Snoasis, Buffalo Wild Wings & Pizza Pie Cafe.
 Happy 18th Birthday Tanner!
Since we got back from Bear Lake Sunday night, Monday while Tanner was at work we decorated his room with 18 balloons and on the end of each of the balloons I tied a picture of one of his 18 birthday's throughout his life.
He wasn't too happy about it, it said he doesn't know why but he just doesn't like things like that. Well, it might not have made HIM happy, but it made ME happy that I did something extra special for an extra special birthday! But I do wish he enjoyed it, like I would...

It's been really tough with NO SOCCER this summer. No kids are in soccer so as tournaments have come and gone, my sadness grows. But I think the HARDEST tournament that we ALL loved going to was the Park City Extreme Cup that happens in August. So when I heard it was happening & started seeing pictures posted on fb or ig, it immediately took me back to those AWESOME Summer mini-vacations we had up there, in Park City with soccer team mates & friends. So here is a recent post about this-

 tbt to the Park City Soccer Extreme Cup, these were some of our family's most memorable summer adventures, with our different Soccer teams & teammates. #soccerteamfamily #dynamo #rangers #sleepingbuddies #naps #winandlose #cardboardsliding #redcards #dynamofansidelines #memoriesthatlastforever @mgillett7303 @tgilly3 @bailey_gillett @maddiegilly13

On one hand I love Highland Fling & Alpine Days with all the FUN...parades, fireworks, youth dances, etc. but on the other hand it also means SuMMeR is coming to a close & school is just around the next corner-

While Tanner was at work one day he had to run to Home Depot for a few items. He said that he, Brad & Shelley noticed this guy and thought he knew him then realized it was Rimando, the goalie from Real SL. So Tanner decided to talk to him, then asked him for a picture. He said he was really nice, but seemed to be in a hurry.
Facebook post August 16th- I have to ask you all a favor...as I'm going through my kids things, Madison brought me a box of "kids" books that SHE was ready to get rid of.
As I'm going through these books, my minds eye takes me back to those many days, nights & sick days I'd read to them, and now those days are GONE!
So please, do me a favor today and read a couple of your favorite books to your kids today/tonight because ALL TOO SOON these days will be gone & you'll be sitting on your floor crying trying to hold onto what you can.
Now to pack some of our "family favorites" into a box & share the "other favorites"with some of our "favorite families."

Another fb post from August 19th- Ya, that moment when you are walking down the halls of your local HS going through your sophomore's school schedule when a friend you are passing in the hallway says, "Hi!" when you all of a sudden you SLiP on some spilled water & do a NOT SO graceful fall into almost the splits. Ya, that wasn't me today! :0/

If this really did happen, & not saying it did- Well then of course Bailey was LAuGhInG So Hard! well, YES and so was I!!! My cute friend came over to help me up but I was laughing so hard. Oh, MY! I just hope they don't have it on video & replay it over & over again at the football game, or the next assembly, etc. Now that wouldn't embarrass her AT ALL!!! TOO FUNNY...ya know-

First & First/Second Day of School
Bailey's First day of school wearing the jean jacket, however it was Madison's Second day of school in the greenish jean jacket, and below Madison's First day wearing the pink shirt & black skirt. (Due to the 7th graders go their first day alone, then they go the Second day with everyone)

Chasing, I mean... following Bailey out to the BUS STOP for the first time! Because we've always lived so close to the schools; Alpine Elementary and Timberline MS our kids have never had the opportunity to ride a school bus, until HIGH SCHOOL, when it's SO un-COOL to ride a bus.

So the week of August 19th the U of U  was having Men's Soccer Tryouts so Tanner & Brad took the week off and decided to tryout. They had also been staying up in Park City at Anthony's dad's home, since he was leaving soon for IMG U in Florida. So on Tuesday, August 20th was the first day of tryouts. The boys came down the canyon and tried out that evening from 7 pm to 9:30, they said it went well. they again went Wednesday night and Tanner was very adamant that he was going to try out & that it was the best thing for him, even thought Mike had told both the boys how stupid it was- that they needed to get on the ball and just get their paperwork in for missions and get out! But Tanner came home Wednesday night and spoke with Tanner late that evening & he was determined to go again the next day, Thursday & the final day of tryouts and make the team. Mike had told me the next morning before he left for work. As I was in my room reading the scriptures that morning, Tanner came into my room about 10:00-10:30 am that morning and just said that "he decided that he didn't want to end up going back to tryouts that evening, he was done." So asked him what happened, especially after he was so determined. He said that at tryouts he was really disappointed with the team & the boys who were trying out. He said, " it didn't happen to me, but...he saw it between each of the boys as they scrimmaged" there wasn't ANY team support, they were Screaming at each other, dropping the F-bombs, etc. at EACH OTHER! He said he had even been sitting and talking with a recent returned missionary as they put their cleats on, and he got out on the field and was a very bad example too. He was really disappointed with the team, after coming from such a great group of boys/teammates who built each other up & didn't scream at each other when they missed a pass, etc. He said that the coaches had been talking to him, like if he made the team would he be willing to play a mid?, etc. He said he even had an assist in one of the scrimmages they had. Anyway, we talked for a while, he was pretty sure he was done. I asked if he had spoken with Brad, to see how he felt about the team, etc. He said he hadn't but he was going to go golfing with him & others that morning, so he would talk to him then. Later that evening, we all met up at the Vawdrey's for Braden's Mission Call Opening, when I spoke to Cindy Clark, Brad's mom. And when I asked her if Brad went to tryout's that evening, she told me that Brad had come home & had said pretty much the same thing to her about the team that Tanner had said to me. And without even speaking to each other they decided separately that the team wasn't the kind of team they wanted to play for & separately decided to not go back for final cuts.

As soon as Tanner left to go golfing with the boys, I called Mike and told him Tanner's decision & Mike was floored, knowing just that evening before Tanner was determined to go & overnight changed his mind.
Braden Vawdrey received his mission call papers & had everyone come over for the opening of them. Thursday, August 22nd at 10 pm. It was POURING RAIN when we got there and my phone must've gotten a little wet or something because it wouldn't let me take but a few pictures, so I had to borrow these a few of these from Tamara, Braden's mom. He had family, friends, and those team mates who are still around.

Another funny family fb post entry from August 25th- So tonight's conversation after FHE went a little something like this... I "suggested" that with Fast Sunday coming up we try something different, & abstain from all our electronic devices for the day, but before I even finished the sentence there was crying, some screaming and a bit of a temper tantrum and that was just from Michael Gillett.

It was JUST an idea but it seems as though I have now been BaNiSHeD & SHuNNeD in my own household.

One Wednesday night we went to the Watergardens Movie Theater in PG to see the movie, "Now You See Me" we came out of the movie theater and as we were exiting the theater everyone was looking up at the sky. The moon, because the past few weeks we had some fires in the nearby counties had produced the moon to look RED! This isn't my picture, but someone had taken a picture of the moon, and it was this red. But as we drove back from PG to Alpine the color of the moon was changing from red to orange to a light orange in color. It was really kind of weird and freaky. It reminds me of the scriptures where it talks about the moon and sun being red in color. I had to capture the memory-

After not getting the 4 wheelers registered for a couple of years, due to cost & cost of fixing the carborator Tanner and Mike fixed his 4 wheeler, registered it & while Tanner had a few days off for an extra long Labor Day weekend, he took it up Corner Canyon- Hog Hollow and went for a drive & this is his post from that day.
Trying to get each room in the house organized, the basement storage room finally got the attention it needed.
Friday before Labor Day, Rachel, Madi and I went up to Swiss Days- it was pretty busy and only got busier. We missed Bailey but she felt she couldn't miss the day, having a test in a class & being the responsible student she is, wouldn't come, even when I begged her :0/
Here is our Baby girl Bailey, out driving and preparing for Drivers Ed- check out those hands GRiPPiNG that steering wheel SO TigHt!!! Too cute- LoVe her!!!
