Alpine 1st Ward Senior Recognition Night Sunday, May 26th 2013

 Every year our ward has a Senior Recognition Night for the graduating Seniors. This year it was Tanner's turn to be recognized, along with a few other Seniors in our ward- Dane Larsen, Jesse Garlick, Madeline Gee, McKay Anderson and Victoria Pitcher, (the two latter didn't attend.)

 

 

 All family members of those being recognized are invited to attend, along with ward leaders, friends, etc.

Words from the above Alpine 1st Newsletter-

Michael “Tanner” Gillett was born on July 19^th, 1995 he is one of the youngest in his grade but the oldest of 3 children, & the only boy in our family. He is the 1^st grandchild on the Gillett’s side and grandchild #28 on the Paskett/Bailey side. We knew when he only crawled for a week before he started walking at 8 ½ months old, we would have our hands full with this child of ours.

He has had a love for 4 wheelers, motorcycles, soccer and learning from the very beginning.  When he began scouts he wanted & tried to do everything suggested in the book, not understanding or caring that you only had to choose a few, not every item. Tanner started riding 4 wheelers & motorcycles since he was only a few months old. Mike made him a roll bar covered car seat where Tanner just sat behind us on our 4 wheelers & was fully protected. By the time he was 5 years old he wanted to save his own money for his own motorcycle. Without thinking it out to clearly, we told him that if he EARNED $50 we would pay the rest & purchase a motorcycle for him. Little did we know HOW determined of a person he is. Every chance he had he would earn money from us, others or his Grandpa Paskett. In as little as 4 months he had his $50 earned and we were buying the motorcycle. Once Tanner sets his mind to something, it’s no time before he sets out to conquer and achieve it. If it’s High School Soccer, Club Soccer, Scouts, his Eagle Scout Project, School, or a job he will achieve it and does a great job at it. He’d be the first one to tell you how difficult it was to keep up in Scouts while being on a competitive soccer sports team, but he would also tell you how each was worth every blood, sweat and tear.

Tanner completed his Eagle Scout Project last summer with help from many of you and your YM. He will graduate with 4 years of Seminary. He’s been playing soccer since he was 4 years old, & competitive soccer since he was 9. And with that, we have been blessed to have gained a “Soccer Family” through those years of soccer. Which we will truly miss as he & his friends go their different ways all over the world as they have, or should be receiving their mission calls within the next few months.

Tanner’s future plans are, that he can’t wait to graduate, move on to the YSA Ward, start a summer internship with Mike Huish at Canyons School District, and hopefully sometime this summer will join this elite pack of “Stripling Warriors” as he submits and receives his mission call.    

Tanner is a very active, hard working, determined, smart, funny & yet quietly spiritual young man. He has had both outstanding and terrible leaders, teachers, and coaches that he has looked up to and admired and also learned from & will choose to do things differently. They have been valuable learning experiences that he can take, use and apply the lessons he learned into his daily life.

We can’t wait to see where you will go & the things you will do in this world, and for this world.
