"This is the Place" 4th grade field trip

With being Room Mom for Madi's 4th grade class, I guess some of the good is that you get to HELP wherever you want. So I was able to 'help' out on this field trip to "This is the Place" State Park this past week.

Right after arriving, we loaded the train that takes you on a tour around the park. Then at 10:45 am we ate lunch in one of the parks Social Halls. It was early for lunch but we were on a tight schedule.

We then separated the 4th grade into our classes & began touring the city. Here the kids are sitting in front of the Pay family home where the parents & 7 kids all lived together in.

ewwww!!! They even had to learn how to square dance- the kids, especially the boys were NOT happy about this.

The town's Blacksmith showed us how he can make things out of metal and made a leaf then presented it to Mrs. Lee to hang it in their classroom.

They learned about the families/pioneers that had to leave behind all their belongings and just bring a few things with them as they traveled across the country.

It was a warm day, but cloudy and overcast with a few sprinkles. It turned out to be perfect for our field trip.

We stepped back in time when we entered the School House. The girls had to curtsy and the boys had to bow & say "good morning" to the teacher before entering the school doors. The teacher taught the kids how they would need to stand & hold their hands to ask or answer a question. She showed them the dunce cap & the paddle that was used and then she showed them the Deseret Alphabet that was used because so many people from so many different countries & it was difficult to teach English.

At one point, cute lil' Madi even got a invitation she was using as a fan taken away. From that moment on she was trying to answer all the questions & smile, etc. to get on the teachers GOOD SIDE so she could get it back after class. Which she did- It was a fun day, full from the beginning to the end.
